CHOOSING WISELY
Our life on this planet is an amazing gift, and also a sacred responsibility.
We carefully select textiles for all our garments, including our organic yoga clothing, that feel good against the skin, perform well, are of good quality and are good for the environment. To help with the selection process, we have developed a preferred materials list based on a rigorous life-cycle analysis that considers the environmental, health and social impact of the growth and processing of plants, fibres and textiles. We are always looking for new textile solutions to meet our design and sustainability needs, and we continue to increase our use of preferred materials with every collection.
Here are some examples from our list:
• Organic Cotton nourishes the earth. Crop rotation and manual cultivation = healthy soil. Zero chemicals = no nasty toxins in soil, air, water or the bodies of farmers. This naturally beautiful textile is oh so soft to touch, durable and strong, and has the bonus of breathability for the skin, perfect for yoga apparel.
• Bamboo is a magical plant that absorbs 5 times more carbon and creates 35% more oxygen than a similar stand of trees. It naturally regenerates and needs little water and very little (if any) pesticides. Aside from its eco street cred (which is vast), we love the hand feel and the way it drapes on the body. By utilising these exceptional qualities in our collections, we create free flowing ready to wear garments and bamboo yoga wear that feels sublime throughout the day.
• Known in house as ‘tree silk’ due to its lustrous softness, Tencel ® and Modal ® are types of viscose made from the wood pulp of sustainable forests and processed in a closed-loop system where the very minimal chemicals, water and carbon discharged in the process, are re-used.
